(excerpt from the oldest-known Valentine, written by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife, while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1415 )

This Valentine’s Day seems like no other.  After nearly a year of isolating away from loved ones, or oppositely, being over inundated by the constant presence of those closest to you, it can be a challenge to take a day to focus on the singular topic of love.  

This exhibition features artist’s works that relate to the theme of love, yet not solely focused on romantic love. Because after all, Valentine’s day is not only for lovers, but for all those whom we love.  

Interestingly St. Valentine, well known as the patron saint of lovers, is also the saint of epileptics, beekeepers, and plague victims, the last of which seems extremely relevant to this year.  We have selected artworks that deal directly with these themes, with a special focus on the color red which has a multi-layered association with the heart, love, passion and desire.
