Mother’s Day Exhibition 2022
“Mother’s Favorite”
featuring works by Sascha Mallon, Joanne Ungar and Jaynie Crimmins
Mother’s Day is almost here and we are celebrating with an exhibition of selected works curated especially for Mom.
Sascha Mallon’s stoneware tea set, “After the Rain” features a hand-painted underglaze of soaring ravens and swallows on the central teapot. Each of the accompanying teacups (nestled on cashmere crocheted doilies) depict a different bird: a hummingbird, a raven, a blue tit and a cardinal. Sascha Mallon’s sculptural set relates to her narrative storytelling style and creates a conversation amongst the birds.
Joanne Ungar’s encaustic works elevate the everyday, and bring an elegance of color and design to familiar cardboard packaging. Each work transforms common cardboard boxes into jewel-like forms, with the emphasized fold-lines relating to the facets of a cut gem. Selected works for the exhibition feature packaging from products such as makeup products and baking liners, as a homage to Mom.
Jaynie Crimmins’ highly detailed and finely crafted works denote qualities and aesthetics of beading design and patterning. Coiled, shredded and sewn paper from museum, design, and leisure catalogs are the primary materials in her relief wall sculptures. Crimmins uses a repetitive practice, mirroring domestic tasks, to transform the paper into stunning visions of layered symmetry.
